I (still!) love playing in the dirt and mud, so this recipe was a lot of fun to make with my hands, and some help from the kids of course! It's simple, and uses stuff most everybody has on hand. I use it to make dinosaur egg "fossils" and also keep some stocked in the children's mud kitchen.
Dirt Dough:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup dirt
1/2 - 1 cup warm water
First, you want to blend the flour, salt, and dirt in an old bowl until the dirt is incorporated and it doesn't look so white anymore.

Add the flour & salt |
Then you stir in the water, starting with just a half cup and working up until you have a thick, mud like (not watery) consistency.

Turn it out onto your surface and knead it for a little bit. Then it's ready for use. Easy as (mud) pie!
