Ink Splatter Art & The Amazing Paper Rocket!

In giving my children free range over our art supplies, they often surprise me with their varied ways of using the materials to create new fabulous works of art.  They have great imaginations and have made some really awesome creations without any guidance or tips from me.  This is the benefit of open ended, process driven art...incredible imaginations!

Princess came up with Ink Splatter Art one evening when she had a bunch of friends over for a sleepover.  It's a simple idea that makes such beautiful pictures!  The materials and set up is simple:  paper, washable colored markers, and a cup of water!

The process consists of dipping the marker tips in the water and shaking them over the paper, leaving colorful splatters on the paper.

In the end, you end up with art pieces like these:

Then, there's the simple paper cut and paste creations like Dirty D's little rocket, where he rolled up a regular sheet of printer paper, glued it into a tube shape, then cut out fins and a top from another sheet of paper.  He's very proud of his rocket!

These are some really fun ideas that you can put together in a few minutes time, perfect boredom busters and rainy day ideas!
