Going On A Bug Hunt!

The weather has been rather tolerable for the past couple days here, so we have been spending the late afternoons outside playing in our yards.  The other day, we were seeing a lot of dragon flies and damsel flies buzzing around our yard, so the kids decided to go on a bug hunt!  The kids grabbed their bug nets and tweezers, and a bug box to examine anything they found before releasing it.
Curls didn't really understand the whole idea, so he just hit his net against the ground repeatedly after watching his brother and sister do so in the hope of making a catch.  Thankfully, Curls insect net is a real heavy duty one that I bought several years back from a school supply catalog, so it can withstand a toddler constantly slamming it against the concrete.
Dirty D was wearing his old skates during his whole hunt...he didn't seem to mind that walking was complicated by them, his reasoning?  He needed to "practice skating for bugs."
Princess had learned the value of patience lately, and she also has quite a good eye for spotting things the rest of us don't see right away.  She was putting those skills to work for our bug hunt.
In the end, Dirty D caught a damsel fly and Princess found a few beetles.  After looking at them closer with our bug box, we let them go.
Curls never did figure what the whole bug hunt was all about, but he did 'catch' a few leaves in his net!
